Grandparenting - Top Ten Rules! | Blissfully Domestic
I was recently invited to become a contributor over on the highly successful website, Blissfully Domestic. I will be blogging about none other than GRANDPARENTING, which as many of you know -- is a favorite topic of mine! For now, I have committed to post about once a month. The LDS GrandParent Place is where I blog specifically about being an LDS grandparent.
I decided to start out with a few tips for grandparents, which you could also consider to be RULES. At least that is what I have designated them as... Grandparenting - Top Ten Rules I'll be interested in knowing what you think about MY rules for grandparents?
By the way, if you haven't heard yet - I am expecting two more grandchildren, in about 8 week. Actually, these two new additions have due dates, five days apart. If that's not bad enough, both of my daughters live in two different states -- neither of which, is mine! Any bright ideas? LOL I'm still hoping for a miracle:-)
Since I am kind of a control freak, I've come up with a back-up plan. I'm considering offering a prayer, wherein I request that one daughter be two weeks early, and the other two weeks late. Is that bad? I guess it depends on which daughter you are! LOL
Okay, how about this... you all pray for ME, that I can be in the right place, at the right time -- when and where I am MOST needed?

I think your grandparenting rules are right on target - especially supporting your children's parenting styles.
ReplyDeleteI am glad I found your blog - thanks for your insights.

ReplyDeleteI'm sooo glad that you agree with my grandparenting rules! LOL But in all honesty, I think the ONE rule that you point out, is probably one of the most important, for good family relations:-)
Thanks for commenting.

Hey now...I read this blog and now I'm praying that your prayer about one of us being two weeks early and one two weeks late will be denied! :) Just so you know, we both plan on being induced at 39 weeks...but I'm pretty sure Laura is coming until you get here :) Great blog for parents too. Love you!
ReplyDeleteGreat post! If you get the opportunity, would you please say a prayer for the requests listed on our main page: LighthousePrayerLine.org ?
ReplyDeleteGod bless you,

I read your 10 Rules for Grandparenting. I agree with it (mostly). I think that "respect the parents" should be included in there. And that giving sugary sweets is NOT the right of a grandparent (unless they want to pay for dental bills). :) Aren't there other ways to "spoil" a kid?

ReplyDeleteI believe that "supporting" the parents of your grandchildren in their particular parenting style, includes that they respect the parents, and certainly shows that the grandparent does. Example is a powerful teacher.
I never claimed that any of my grandparenting rules/tips are the "right" of any grandparent. I actually consider them a privilege. I only suggest them as a way to strengthen the grandparent/grandchild relationship. A small "sweet-treat" can be easily agreed upon with the parents of a grandchild. If they object to "sugar", then they can opt for sugarless. And, I never said anything about "sugary" sweets. I have often included other small items for my grandchildren that are not edible, which I think are "sweet". Grandparents are free to be creative with this tip, and I would encourage them to do so.
The most important thing for any grandparent to keep in mind, is that they are/can be a very positive influence in their grandchildren's lives ~ and building a consistent relationship with each of them, is a great beginning!
