The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints issued the following statement today in response to a press conference organized by Affirmation:
"The issues surrounding same gender attraction deserve careful attention not public posturing. It appears from Affirmation’s actions today that it has opted for a public rather than a private exchange.”
It seems as though the group - Affirmation, is trying to put public pressure on the Church, by making them seem the bad guys in this issue. Nothing could be further from the truth. This statement is meant to set the record straight - as to "who" is dodging who in this situation.
Unfortunately, these are members of the LDS Church, who seem to feel that if enough pressure from the public is directed toward the Church - the Church will change it's policies.
This is a group that generally believe, that changes in Mormon policy - most always come because of "peer" pressure and not revelation. To think that by putting pressure on the Church in such a manner -- could ever change the Eternal Plan of God, regarding the Family!
I am very happy to see The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints come out openly and Stand For Something!

I can't believe they think they can change a MAJOR premise of the church. Polygamy has gone in and out of the church historically. But homosexuality has ALWAYS been considered one of the biggest sins. Whole nations of people were destroyed because of how rampant it was. Wow. I think these people are needing to justify their poor decisions/actions. If they get the church to change it's policy then they can relieve some guilt. Crazy.

ReplyDeleteYes, this group is just that arrogant to believe that "their" actions, if made public, can actually change not only a policy of/in the Church, but actual doctrine regarding homosexuality and even same-sex marriage.
There are "members" that truly believe that there is a possibility and a place in the Church to see these eternal doctrines completely changed. The attitude is - that we little people (regular faithful members) just don't understand the ways of God with our finite minds.

How stupid is this group. The principles of the LDS church were put in place by god. God made the rules and he made them for a reason. You cant change gods mind in a matter like homosexuality, it is not up to any member of the LDS church even the prophet to change the principals. You wanna be a homosexual and go against gods will then you deal with eternal damnation thats how it is dont try and justify it. And you will regret it on judgement day.
ReplyDeleteI know the rest of you have written a few years ago and the gay movement has taken off as it appears. I've noticed that Affirmation and a Bishop's secretary in the San Francisco Area have been more vocal about pushing the church into allowing gays to be married and sealed. They ignore the scriptures that openly condemn such behavior and just repeat over and over the "love scriptures" as if love means you have to accept and tolerate bad behavior. What they really want the Church to do is rewrite the Bible. I think the church has been very welcoming to gays and sinners in general for years but the church's mission is to take us from sin through Christ and obtain godliness.
ReplyDeleteUltimately in my view, any allowance that the church makes towards homosexuals in the church is just that, an allowance, just like Moses made an allowance for the Children of Israel to divorce. But those allowances are to prepare us for a higher law, ultimately, homosexual behavior nor dwelling on homosexual lust will lead to eternal exaltation, it says it in the Doctrine and Covenants, men must enter into the New and Everlasting Covenant of marriage or they cannot obtain the highest degree of Celestial Glory.

DeleteWow! This is a really old post! And here we are, still holding the line as a Church... I'm not sure what you mean by the "allowances" that you feel the Church is making, or perhaps might make? Liberal members will continue to push and push their own agendas all they want... however, the leaders of the Church have firmly taught, and proclaimed that the doctrine on marriage ad God has ordained, between a man and a woman is NOT changing. The most recent General Conference was powerful in teaching this doctrine and anyone with any doubt where the Church stands on these issues has only to listen to these proceedings. Most likely I will publish I post tomorrow or Sunday discussing this very issue.
Members have no reason to be concerned regardless of the constant push of some members that the Church is softening on these doctrines. What we are working on, is learning how to love and have compassion for those who struggle with SSA and who desire to remain faithful members of the Church. We are trying to better understand this challenge and allow these members to self-identify without judgement. There is such a thing as a faithful, gay Mormon and we are getting to them and love them and support them in their challenges to live the gospel.
