TWILIGHT for LDS women - the book, not the years! I'm not even sure what "years" the twilight years even cover? I think it is right before you croak, or something like that... Anyway, back to TWILIGHT.
Have any of you other LDS women and moms heard about TWILIGHT? Sure you have... because more than likely your teenage daughters have read all three books in the TWILIGHT series and are losing sleep over the fact that the fourth book comes out this weekend! Am I right?
LDS girls are insane about these books! I mean it - this is no joke. I've seen it... ordinary LDS girls - and they can't seem to even think straight after reading even the first book in the TWILIGHT series.
So... I've decided to do something about it. I have started reading TWILIGHT myself.
I'll keep you posted. LDS girls say it is totally clean and it is even written by a member of the Church. Hmmm?
Ask any LDS girl you know - about EDWARD?

It's not only LDS girls. My wife and at least 3-4 other women I know love the books. They are going to the midnight release at the local Borders. I haven't read them...in fact none of my male friends have.
ReplyDeleteI have found that many members choose to read "young-adult" novels instead of "adult" novels because of the objectionable content in the "adult" ones.
Twilight is the new rage with LDS girls. lol I am just finishing book Two...a little behind.
ReplyDeleteI can't decide if it is Edward or Jacob we should be watching!

ReplyDeleteSo that is what I am hearing... not just LDS girls, but their LDS moms... grown women are into Twilight! LOL
Well then... I am glad to be reading the books, so that I can figure out what is up?
Thanks for taking the time to comment. I will post my thoughts on this series... at some point:-)

I'm a Twilight reader (I'm 26)- read it a couple years ago. All my sisters (from ages 16-28) have read the series and love it. 2 of my sister-in-laws have read it and love it and they are in their 30's. I'm going to a Breaking Dawn (the new book in the series) party tomorrow. My husband is mystified by our love for the series and is dreading the fact that I'll be MIA while I read this next book. Yes, it is clean, but not without sexual tension. It may remind you of a high school romance... Great series. :)

ReplyDeleteWell now, it seems that as many LDS women as LDS girls might be reading the Twilight series... and loving it too.
I've started the first book, TWILIGHT - and agree on the High School romance description:-) For the many of "we" LDS women, who have a few fond memories of those early first loves - this book does strike a bit of a chord - and makes it fun for even us. LOL
Perhaps Twilight can bridge a bit of the generation gaps between mothers and daughters? Who knows... but it seems as though we are having fun regardless.
Thanks for visiting. Check back and I will update my progress on reading the Twilight series:-)

Just found your site....women (not LDS) love Twilight because it is entertaining without all the yuck. I mean, except for the blood. Just a little blood. My take? Bella is a silly girl, Jacob smells like a dog....and I'm TOTALLY in love with Edward! Bring it on!

ReplyDeleteWomen... seem to really like the Twilight series, LDS or otherwise.
I only bring up the LDS factor, because Stephanie Meyers, who wrote the TWILIGHT series - is a Mormon herself. I'm not sure if a lot of people realize that?
You should go on over to my http://kooldsgirlz.blogspot.com blog and vote in the Edward or Jacob poll.
Girls of all ages, just having some fun together...

I love these books and I love Edward. ... And I'm married. :)
ReplyDeletei resisted the twilight series for 2 years and 3 tries but it finally got to me, and currently i am in the middle of breaking dawn which i am addicted to and can't stop reading when i have an split second of freedom. but here is my view on twilight (not just twilight, the whole twilight series actually...)
ReplyDeletemy own opinion is that i love edward, but even more than that, i LOVE LOVE LOVE BELLA! most readers don't either 1. give her much thought or 2. isn't their favorite. but to me, bella is my favorite character in these books. sure there is edward, the perfect guy i wish would magically step into my life but bella is my favorite.
i think i love her so much because she is not a dumb girl. okay, every girl is a dumb girl when it comes to boys...but besides that she is smart. she is very aware of things, and logical. not a cold hearted logical, just a smart logical. she thinks things through and decides on them. she might not always make the right decision but she always knows what she is doing, good or bad. she has a real heart, she loves edward like no other but she isn't annoyingly cheesy about it. basically...she doesn't want to make me gag like most other female romantic novel main characters do. there is always the "not perfect but in his own way perfect guy" in romance novels, and sometimes there are the "witty-and-smart" girls like lizzy bennet (no offense to lizzy, i love her too) but bella is just so...real. maybe its because i feel like i am like her, or maybe its because i wish i could be like that, but either way she is my favorite character.
and as for jacob...UGH I HATE HIM! he is just so annoying and pathetic to me. and i can say that because i have been where he has been not that long ago, but he is just so STUPID! ugh, i can relate to jacobs position and some of his feelings but the way he deals with things irritates me like no other! he is like the annoying girl who always seems to be centered around cheesy romance novels and makes me want to chuck the book across the room into a wall that will make it shatter. the most irritating thing about jacob is how is the "victim" in his mind. don't get me wrong, he doesn't always act like it, and personally i think its because he just wants to seem mature and adult around bella but he is always wallowing, wait boys don't really wallow, they just get mad and all tempermental, and thats how jacob is! i have BEEN in jacobs position and his reactions and decisions are just so stupid! its like, oh puuul eeze! he is just irritates me to death! go away jacob! i hate you! hahahaha
ok there is my 30 min opinion on the twilight characters...sorry...

ReplyDeleteWhat a great personal Twilight review. I will keep your assessments in mind about Bella, Edward and Jacob as I read the Twilight series. I really appreciate you sharing your insights about these extremely popular characters from the Twilight books.
What is it about Edward, that so many LDS girls think he is the perfect guy?
I'm not really liking some of the stuff I am hearing about Breaking Dawn though???
Any thoughts?

I am just starting the fourth book. This one is a little different but so far I like it. I think I like Jacob better. To me he is warm and suggly.
ReplyDeleteLet us know what you think of book four when you are done. I am on page 250.
