Emma Smith: My Story -

Well, Emma Smith: My Story opens tomorrow,

I am really glad that I wrote about this movie coming out about Emma Hale Smith. I am currently reading the book "Women of Covenant" written by; Jill Mulvay Deer; Janath Russell Cannon and Maureen Ursenbach Beecher. This is a book about the history of the Relief Society of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints. I am about 100 pages into the book...

Apparently this history was commissioned by the General Relief Society; its manuscript was looked over carefully by General Authorities of the Church, as well as two different General Relief Society Presidencies, etc... But, this is not considered an "official" history of the Relief Society. I find this quite interesting.

The book is quite candid in how they tell the accounts of Emma attempting to basically undermine the Prophet Joseph Smith and the doctrine of Plural Marriage, through her efforts as the inaugural President of the Female Relief Society in Nauvoo. She is given the responsibility for the Relief Society organization being ceased for the time period that it was; due to much dissension that she had brought about, in her openly advocating that this practice be done away with.

It is no secret that Emma was not an advocate of plural marriage. I am looking forward to seeing the movie, Emma Smith: My Story and wonder if any of this history has been written into the film, as it is apparently quite well documented according to the authors of "Women of Covenant".

I would love to hear from any of you that have a chance to see Emma Smith: My Story. I am in California and expect that it will still be awhile before I am able to view the film myself.
